The Ministry of Community Development and Territories of Ukraine has approved new regulations for smart tachographs, which automatically monitor and transmit data regarding the work hours of commercial vehicle drivers, their speed, and stopping points.

This was announced by Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach.

“Smart tachographs represent another step towards aligning with European transportation standards. The new regulations for their use have been officially approved. Order No. 532 has already been registered with the Ministry of Justice,” said Derkach.

According to him, this order will come into effect on May 27 following its official publication.

Ukrainian carriers have been investing in modern equipment equipped with smart tachographs for a long time, but there has previously been no way to service or obtain cards for them in Ukraine.

The new regulations include approved samples of cards for smart tachographs, the ability to submit applications online, and simplified procedures for technical maintenance and installation of devices.

Among the important changes is the removal of the requirement to have a calibration protocol for the tachograph onboard, significantly easing the workload for carriers and drivers.

Derkach noted that it will be possible to order cards for tachographs after the completion of technical procedures by the EU.
