By 2030, Ukraine aims to implement 5G technology, as stated by Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Stanislav Prybytyk in an interview with Forbes. While the full rollout of the technology will occur only after the state of war concludes, testing has already been scheduled in the cities of Lviv, Kharkiv, and Borodyanka.
Prybytyk noted that approximately 22% of smartphones in Ukraine are 5G-compatible. He emphasized that the launch of the fifth generation of mobile networks was originally planned for 2022, but the invasion shifted the timeline.
Regarding the chosen testing regions, Kharkiv was proposed by the president, while Borodyanka symbolizes the rebuilding of the country after significant destruction.
"Kharkiv is the president's idea. Testing in Kharkiv proves that despite constant shelling, the city is progressing. Borodyanka is a symbol of Ukraine's recovery after major destruction. Technologies for a 'Smart City' are being employed there, and there is a need for new mobile technology," Prybytyk stated.
