Meta's Next-Gen Smart Glasses: What to Anticipate

image

Meta has prematurely showcased two new models of smart glasses in a video that has since been removed. According to UploadVR, the clip was posted on the Ray-Ban channel. These devices are expected to be among the major announcements at this week's Meta Connect conference. The video revealed that the Ray-Ban Display glasses will feature a screen in the right lens. Demonstrated use cases included map navigation, real-time translation, interaction with Meta AI, and message writing. A wristband utilizing sEMG (surface electromyography) technology will be used for control, reading electrical signals from hand muscles, allowing users to 'write' in the air or execute commands with gestures. The second model, Oakley Sphaera, boasts a streamlined design with a camera positioned on the bridge of the nose and is likely aimed at capturing video and photos from the user's perspective. Meta is actively advancing this direction following the launch of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses in 2023, which enabled users to take photos, record videos, and utilize a voice assistant. Now, the company aims to integrate a display and enhanced interaction with Meta AI to make the glasses more versatile. The official introduction of the new devices is anticipated at the Meta Connect conference on September 17, 2025, hosted by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
