OpenAI has announced remarkable growth in the popularity of ChatGPT, which has reached 700 million active users this week. This information was reported by TechCrunch.

According to Vice President Nick Turley, the user count was at 500 million by the end of March, quadrupling in just a year. Turley emphasized that people and teams are using ChatGPT daily for learning, creativity, and problem-solving.

The surge in popularity is attributed to the launch of an updated image generation feature based on the GPT-4 model in March. This option quickly captured users' interest: within days of its launch, over 700 million images were created, and the number of users who engaged with the new capability exceeded 130 million.

The base of paid business users is also growing: last week, COO Brad Lightcap reported 5 million subscribers, up from 3 million in June.

According to analytical firm Sensor Tower, the average ChatGPT user accesses the app more than 12 days a month. In this regard, it is only surpassed by Google and X. In the first half of 2025, the average usage time was 16 minutes per day, indicating high audience engagement.

Thus, ChatGPT remains one of the most popular consumer AI services, and OpenAI continues to actively enhance its functionality and grow its audience.
