Skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevich has been disqualified from competing at the 2026 Olympics.
According to Suspilne Sport, Geraskevich was set to participate in the “Helmet of Memory”, but he could not take part.
Recently, the IOC banned him from competing in the "Helmet of Memory" at the Olympics, leading to this disqualification.
On the day of the competition, Geraskevich released a statement on his Instagram page regarding the recent events related to the “Helmet of Memory”.
“I never intended to create a scandal with the IOC, which arose from their misinterpretation of the rules that many consider discriminatory.
While the IOC's actions highlighted the plight of Ukrainian athletes who lost their lives, the scandal diverts attention from the competitions and the athletes involved. Therefore, I urge to end this conflict.
I request:
1. To lift the ban on using the “Helmet of Memory”.
2. To apologize for the pressure I have faced in recent days.
3. To provide generators for Ukrainian sports facilities suffering from bombardments in a show of solidarity.
I hope for a response before the skeleton competitions begin,” the athlete wrote.
