Ukrainian Paralympians Shine in Winter Competitions

The 2025-2026 winter competitive season kicked off for Ukrainian Paralympians with impressive achievements at the international level, where they secured medals at the World Cups in skiing and biathlon held in Canada.

At the FIS World Cup for para skiing, featuring over 120 athletes from 19 countries, the Ukrainian team of 21 athletes won 6 medals:

  • «Gold»: Serhiy Romaniuk (standing class, freestyle sprint).
  • «Bronze»: Liudmyla Liashenko (standing class, 10 km classic style race); Oleksandra Kononova (standing class, freestyle sprint); Serafim Drahun (standing class, freestyle sprint); Dmytro Suyarko (visually impaired class, guide Oleksandr Nikonovych, 10 km classic style mass start).

At the IBU World Cup for para biathlon, with over 70 athletes with disabilities competing, the Ukrainian team excelled with 15 medals:

  • «Gold»: Oleksandr Kazik (visually impaired class, guide Serhiy Kucheriavyy, pursuit sprint); Anatoliy Kovalevskyi (visually impaired class, guide Oleksandr Mukshin, sprint).
  • «Silver»: Oleksandr Kazik (visually impaired class, guide Serhiy Kucheriavyy, 12.5 km individual race); Serhiy Romaniuk (standing class, pursuit sprint); Liudmyla Liashenko (standing class, pursuit sprint); Yaroslav Reshetynskyi (visually impaired class, guide Dmytro Drahun, sprint); Oleksandra Kononova (standing class, 12.5 km individual race); Hryhoriy Vovchynskyi (standing class, 12.5 km individual race).
  • «Bronze»: Oleksandra Kononova (standing class, pursuit sprint); Taras Rady (sitting class, pursuit sprint); Bohdana Konashuk (standing class, 12.5 km individual race).

These competitions marked an important milestone for Ukrainian Paralympians on their journey to the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games.
