Ukrainian Women's Team at the World Chess Championship

The Ukrainian Chess Federation has announced the lineup for the women's team that will compete in the World Team Championship taking place from November 18 to 23 in Linares, Spain. This information was shared on the official FSHU resources.

The team consists of:

  • Yulia Osmak (Kyiv, 2464);
  • Anna Ushenina (Kharkiv, 2407);
  • Nataliya Buxsa (Lviv, 2400);
  • Nataliya Zhukova (Odesa, 2305);
  • Bozhena Piddubna (Kyiv, 2295);
  • Anastasia Hnatishin (Lviv, 2191).

The team will be coached by grandmasters Mikhail Brodsky and Mikhail Oleksienko, with the delegation led by Vladimir Kovalyuk, the first vice-president of the Ukrainian Chess Federation.
Notably absent is Inna Gaponenko, a seasoned grandmaster who has represented the national team for many years, including winning gold at the 2006 Chess Olympiad.
A total of 12 teams will compete in the championship, with 11 already confirmed: Georgia, France, Kazakhstan, USA, China, Ukraine, Peru, Egypt, India, Spain, and the FIDE team (Russian Federation).
The first stage will be a round-robin tournament featuring 6 teams, with the top 4 advancing to the playoffs, which will follow the Olympic system.
The final participant will be determined in a match between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, scheduled for October 31 and November 1.
