Dayana Yastremska (30) is scheduled to compete in the WTA 500 tournament next week in Tokyo, Japan. In her opening match of the main draw, the Ukrainian player will face off against 'neutral' athlete Diana Schneider (19).
The two competitors have met on the court twice before. In 2024, Yastremska lost to Schneider on grass in Bad Homburg, while this year the Ukrainian triumphed over the Russian in the second round of Roland Garros.
It is worth noting that Schneider is also participating in a similar tournament in Ningbo, China, where she will play a semifinal match against her compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova (10) on October 18.
The tournament in Tokyo will take place from October 20 to 26 on hard courts, with the reigning champion being Chinese player Zheng Qinwen (11).
As a reminder, Yastremska concluded her run in Ningbo in the second round, losing to Kazakh player Elena Rybakina.
