Ukrainian tennis ace Elina Svitolina (13) will not participate in the WTA 1000 tournament taking place in Beijing from September 24 to October 5.
The reason for her withdrawal is a thigh injury, as reported by Ukrainian Tennis.
Svitolina was set to start her campaign from the second round, but her spot will now be taken by Polish player Magda Linette (38), who has been assigned the 33rd seed.
The last time the 31-year-old Ukrainian played in Beijing was in 2019, when she reached the quarter-finals.
Currently, Svitolina remains listed for the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, scheduled for October 6-12.
Thus, three Ukrainian players will compete in Beijing: Marta Kostyuk (28), Dayana Yastremska (31), and Yuliya Starodubtseva (86). The tennis players have already received their first-round opponents.
