A group of Ukrainian veterans, two of whom have amputated limbs, swam across the Bosphorus Strait on August 24. They covered a distance of 6.5 kilometers from Asia to Europe, showcasing remarkable results, as reported by the national military trauma center Superhumans.
A total of 2800 participants took part in the event. Veterans with amputations intentionally did not disclose their disabilities during registration, as it was crucial for them to complete the distance alongside others:
"Just a day before the start, they could have been disqualified, and now we are amazed by their achievements!" – stated the community.
Veteran Pavlo, who returned to swimming two months after stepping on a mine and losing a leg, completed the distance in 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Triathlete Oleg, who suffered two concussions during combat, finished one of the world's toughest swims in 1 hour and 24 minutes.
Veteran Oleksandr, who has an above-knee amputation, climbed to the Everest Base Camp in April and swam across the Bosphorus in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
"This is not just about sports. It's about recovery after war, about strength of character and setting an example for all of us. Thank you for inspiring us!" – summarized the Superhumans Center.
