Elina Svitolina (13) has reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada. In the fourth round, the top-ranked Ukrainian player defeated American Amanda Anisimova (7), a finalist at Wimbledon 2025.
The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes, concluding with a score of 6:4, 6:1.
Despite the convincing score, the match was not an easy one for Elina. The players exchanged breaks at the start of the first set, and in the 7th-8th games, each managed to hold their serve despite facing break points. With a score of 5:4 in her favor, Svitolina converted her second set point in a challenging game on return, winning the first set 6:4.
The second set, although two games shorter than the first, lasted 3 minutes longer. This was due to Svitolina's fight for her serve at 1:1, which extended over 10 minutes, starting from 40:0. She finally won the game only on her eighth game point, having saved three break points from Anisimova.
Following this, Elina broke serve and managed to hold her serve despite a double break point against her. Only at 4:1 did the match become easier, and Svitolina secured her place in the quarterfinals in Montreal.
During the match, Elina hit 4 aces, made 3 double faults, and achieved 4 breaks. Her opponent recorded 4 aces, 4 service faults, and 1 break out of 9 chances.
