On July 6, the third Women's FIDE World Cup will commence in Baku, with five Ukrainian chess players participating.
The tournament bracket has been released by the federation's press service.
Maria and Anna Muzychuk will begin their journey from the second round due to their high ratings. Anna will face the winner of the match between Mungunzul and Servantes Landeiro, while her sister will compete against Zalya Urkh or another Ukrainian, Inna Gaponenko.
Another former champion, Anna Ushenina, will play in the first round against Jessie Nikki February from South Africa, while Yulia Osmak will face the winner of the duel between Kory and Wang.
The World Cup will be held using a knockout system. Players will compete in two games with classical time control (90 minutes + 30 minutes after the 40th move, +30 seconds for each subsequent move), and in case of a draw, rapid and blitz games will follow.
The total prize fund for the tournament is $691,250, with the champion receiving $50,000.
In 2021, the World Cup was won by Russian player Alexandra Kosteniuk, and in 2023, by Alexandra Goryachkina, also from Russia.
In June, Anna Muzychuk participated in the team world championship, where she secured third place in rapid chess.
