President Volodymyr Zelensky has enacted a new bill regarding adaptive sports aimed at engaging veterans and individuals with disabilities in physical activities.

This document officially recognizes adaptive sports as a distinct area of physical activity, as stated by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

Adaptive sports represent a crucial aspect of physical activity that provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities, focusing on their rehabilitation and inclusion in society.

The bill complements the existing law on "Physical Culture and Sports," outlining:

  • the responsibilities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in coordinating the development of adaptive sports;
  • the bodies responsible for organizing such events;
  • the roles of local administrations in ensuring conditions for adaptive sports;
  • the function of sports federations in promoting adaptive sports.

The law also stipulates that conditions for engaging in adaptive sports must be created in the living areas of veterans and disabled individuals, as well as in sanatoriums and tourist facilities.

"Adaptive sports will now serve as a vital tool for improving the physical and mental health of individuals with disabilities and will facilitate their successful integration," the Ministry of Veterans Affairs explained.
