Mariluise Beck, a German politician and director of the Center for Liberal Modernity in Eastern and Central Europe, has been awarded the Honorary Distinction of the Mayor of Odesa "ODESA" for her significant humanitarian efforts, support for Odesa residents during the war, and strengthening international cooperation.
Her initiative led to the development of the "Against Oblivion" memorial project on Lustdorf Road, commemorating the over 25,000 people who were burned alive in 1941, primarily from Jewish and Romani backgrounds.
A grant of one million euros was secured for the implementation of this project. However, due to the ongoing war, the works had to be postponed, and the funds redirected to humanitarian needs of the city.
This allowed Odesa to receive transport, specialized equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other critically important resources.
The city authorities express their gratitude for the support and hope to resume pre-war projects and continue collaboration for Odesa's development.
