Today, November 21, the first meeting of the Coordination Council on public health issues took place in Kyiv, established to implement new measures in the field of public health. This decision was made based on the Order of the KMVA No. 985, initiated by the Department of Health.

During the meeting, a draft of a new plan to reduce the consumption of tobacco products and their harmful effects on the health of Kyiv's residents for the period 2025–2030 was approved. This document was jointly developed by the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Main Department of the State Consumer Service, and the Department of Health.

“Smoking poses a serious threat to the health of Kyiv residents. According to the Ministry of Health, it is the leading cause of over 60% of cardiovascular diseases and about 15% of lung cancer deaths,” emphasized Valentyna Hynzburg, Director of the Department of Health.

The main goal of the new plan is to reduce smoking rates among adults and children by 30% by 2030 and to create “smoke-free” environments in public areas.

To implement this plan, it is planned to involve government authorities, law enforcement, educational institutions, research organizations, and NGOs. This decision was adopted at the Coordination Council meeting.

In addition to approving the new plan, participants discussed the status of immunoprophylaxis in the capital and issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of zoonotic diseases, including rabies.
