A demonstration of the latest version of the Ukrainian interceptor drone Octopus took place in Kyiv for a British delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The Octopus drone is developed within the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is equipped with an AI-based control system.
It is designed to counter Shahed-type drones, and its effectiveness has been proven in combat situations.
The collaboration between manufacturers and military forces allows for continuous improvements in this technology and creates a highly effective R&D ecosystem.
Drone production is being established in both Ukraine and the UK.
In particular, in May 2025, a specialized Intellectual Property Department was created within the Ministry. The department's experts ensured legal compliance during the licensing agreement process with the UK government, which included:
- legal protection of technology in Ukraine;
- filing for invention registration under international procedures;
- support for the licensing contract with the UK Ministry of Defense.
In November 2025, delegations from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defense signed a licensing agreement regarding the Octopus drone, paving the way for its production in the UK. Production volumes could reach several thousand drones per month. The manufactured units will be supplied to Ukraine to strengthen air defense. The ministry notes that this is the first agreement of its kind concerning state-owned technologies, opening up new opportunities for Ukraine regarding bilateral defense technology exchanges with partner countries.
