A new book titled “The GUR Island. Secrets. Operations. War” has been released, detailing the significant operations of Ukrainian military intelligence.
As stated by the press service, journalist Maksym Butchenko's work narrates the story of the Main Intelligence Directorate: the people, decisions, and operations that have influenced the course of the Russo-Ukrainian war since 2014.
This publication chronicles the journey of Ukrainian military intelligence from its early days in the 1990s to the complex operations that have reshaped global perceptions of intelligence agencies.
For the first time, testimonies from intelligence officers and commanders reveal previously classified details about the battles for Hostomel, the creation of the world's first drone fleet, special operations of the MAGURA sea drones, daring raids into Russia's Belgorod region, precision strikes over 2,000 km away, and actions taken by Ukrainian intelligence against war criminals in temporarily occupied territories.
The book also features insights from various leaders of military intelligence, including Oleksandr Skipalsky, Oleksandr Halaka, and Valeriy Kondratiuk, covering the evolution of GUR from independence to the full-scale war.
“A nation of free people, an army of brave warriors, a society fighting for its dignity, has proven to be a formidable opponent for the bloodthirsty army of the Kremlin's Führer. Ukrainian intelligence officers have always been at the forefront of the fight against the Russian enemy. The battles of our special forces on land, at sea, and in the air, on the front lines and deep in enemy territory, in the information and cyber realms — all of this is captured in the pages of this book,” — wrote GUR Chief Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov in the preface.
