In Ukraine, November 3 marks Engineer Troops Day.
This day was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine on October 27, 1999.
Engineer troops provide engineering support to units across all branches of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
They belong to the special forces within the overall structure of the Armed Forces.
These troops are at the frontline, as they initiate attacks during wartime, facilitating the advance of infantry and armored units. Military engineers clear paths through enemy minefields and obstacles, remove debris to allow their troops to move freely, and conduct demining operations for areas, buildings, roads, airfields, stations, and streets.
In peacetime, the engineer troops focus on detecting and neutralizing mines, shells, and grenades, as well as disposing of outdated engineering munitions and equipment.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, congratulated military engineers on their professional holiday.
"Engineer troops are the shield that saves the lives of our defenders. They are the foundation of our defense and the driving force of the offensive," he stated on Facebook.
The minister added that military engineers set up positions, construct fortifications, crossings, and bridges, neutralize minefields, clear debris, and ensure the advance of Ukrainian soldiers.
Shmyhal thanked them for their courage, professionalism, and resilience, for their responsible service under the most challenging conditions.
"We bow our heads in memory of the fallen engineer soldiers who died fighting for the freedom and independence of Ukraine," he added.
