Fake News: A Threat to Ukrainian-Polish Relations

Russian agencies and their controlled media are actively disseminating false narratives suggesting that Ukraine is preparing a provocation against Poland, which will later be blamed on Russia. According to the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, the goal of such actions is to weaken support for Ukraine from Poland and NATO.
Specifically, the Polish MIA reported that Russian media, citing information from Russian intelligence, warned Poland and Romania about an alleged provocation prepared by Kyiv.
“Russian intelligence is spreading a false narrative: ‘Ukraine will attack Poland, and blame it on Russia,’” the ministry emphasized.
In the post, the Polish MIA posed the question: “Who would benefit from weakening relations between Kyiv and Warsaw?” and “Would Ukraine, while defending itself from Russia, be interested in attacking Poland – its main center of support?”
“The analysis of the spread of this information indicates a planned information operation. Its goal is always the same – to cut Ukraine off from support by Poland and NATO, with only the lies changing,” warned the Polish ministry.
In this regard, the Polish MIA stressed that the best weapon in the fight against fake news is critical thinking and verifying information sources.
“Let us be vigilant against disinformation,” the ministry concluded.
