Starting from October 12, 2025, new border crossing regulations will be introduced for Ukrainian citizens as the Entry/Exit System (EES) comes into effect. This entails that all non-EU travelers will be recorded in a dedicated database.
The system applies to short-term stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Digital registration will replace the traditional passport stamps.
The following data will be collected:
- facial photograph
- four fingerprints (for individuals aged 12 and older)
- passport information
- date and location of entry/exit, as well as instances of denied entry
Here’s how it will work in practice:
- All passengers must exit the vehicle for biometric processing;
- Train travel procedures may vary depending on the crossing point;
- Refusal to provide biometric data may be grounds for denial of entry.
What are the objectives of this system?
- to enhance monitoring of compliance with EU stay regulations;
- to prevent the use of forged documents;
- to improve security in Schengen Area countries.
