Celebrating Air Force Day in Ukraine

Today, Ukraine celebrates Air Force Day.

This holiday is observed on the first Sunday of August as per the Presidential decree issued on June 27, 2007.

The history of aviation worldwide is closely linked to Ukrainian land. Notable figures such as Oleksandr Mozyrskyi, who created one of the first airplanes, and Mykola Kybalychych, the founder of rocket theory, made significant contributions. The names of Igor Sikorsky and Dmytro Hryhorovych are renowned for their flying machines.

Ukrainian ace pilots Kostyantyn Artseulov and Volodymyr Dybovskyi were pioneers in recovering aircraft from free fall using the spin maneuver. Pilot Yevgraf Kruten laid the groundwork for fighter aviation tactics, which continue to influence modern aerial combat.

Currently, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine comprises not only air units but also air defense components, including missile systems and radio technical troops, as well as special forces.
