On Saturday morning, July 26, in the town of Pitsinades on the southern Greek island of Kythira, a significant fire broke out, leading to the evacuation of local residents.

This was reported by Ekathimerini.

The firefighting service deployed 28 firefighters on the island, including a specialized unit for forest operations (EMODE), six fire trucks, volunteers, one helicopter, and two planes.

Additionally, seven firefighters from the 6th unit of EMODE were transported by ferry from Neapoli in southern Peloponnese.

Shortly after the fire started, the Greek emergency alert system 112 urged residents of Pitsinades to evacuate to the neighboring village of Aronadika. A second alert around noon advised the residents of Aronadika to move towards Friliani.

The third notification from 112 was issued around 1:00 PM, directing residents of the Arai area to head to Livadi, as the fire continued to spread.

So far, there has been no information regarding casualties or property damage. Firefighting efforts continue despite changing wind conditions.
