Surge in Electricity Consumption Due to Heatwave in Ukraine

On Friday, July 25, a notable increase in electricity consumption has been observed across Ukraine due to the extreme heat.

According to a report from the National Energy Company of Ukraine "Ukrenergo" on their Facebook page, electricity consumption is on the rise. As of 9:30 this morning, it was 6.9% higher compared to the same time the previous day – Thursday. The main reason is the soaring temperatures throughout Ukraine, along with cloudy weather and rain in some western and northern regions, which affects the efficiency of household power plants and increases reliance on the national grid.

Yesterday, July 24, the daily peak of consumption was recorded in the evening, exceeding the previous day’s peak by 1.7%.

Ukrenergo reminded that the Ukrainian energy system is still recovering from mass missile and drone attacks. Emergency recovery works at energy facilities are ongoing.

The company emphasized the need for energy conservation today and urged consumers to limit the use of high-power electrical appliances until 10 PM.
