Four Ukrainian citizens attempting to cross the border into Romania through the Maramureș Mountains received assistance from rescuers. They were extracted from the mountain during the night from Sunday to Monday and handed over to local authorities, according to Dan Benga, the director of the Maramureș County Rescue Service, as reported by Agerpres. "The search and rescue operation lasted all night and became more complicated after midnight. Three Ukrainians aged 21, 26, and 40 were found approximately 6.5 hours later. One had a fever likely due to physical exhaustion, while another had an infected wound on their arm. Both received first aid and were prepared for evacuation. One Ukrainian was taken to the hospital for examination, while the other two were turned over to competent authorities for further procedures," Benga stated. While rescuers were concluding the first operation, a new call for help came in for a 34-year-old Ukrainian who was also in the mountains. "He sustained an injury and was unable to move. After over five hours of searching, he was found in good health, as he failed to follow instructions to stay put. He was checked, prepared for evacuation, and early in the morning handed over to the authorities for necessary legal procedures," Benga added. Both rescue operations were supported by border police from nearby border settlements.
