Gas Import Challenges in Ukraine: Current Strategies

Since the beginning of 2025, the company "Naftogaz" has imported about 800 million cubic meters of gas due to military actions that resulted in production losses.

This was reported by the press service of "Naftogaz".

The information was provided by the acting head of Naftogaz, Roman Chumak, during a meeting with the Japanese ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome.

"Due to the shelling, we have lost part of our production, so our top priority is to restore damaged facilities and return production before the next heating season.

At the same time, the group continues to import gas to compensate for losses and build sufficient reserves – since the start of the year, about 800 million cubic meters of gas have been imported", the statement said.

Naftogaz also stated that work is ongoing with the government and international partners to find financing options for the necessary gas volumes for the upcoming winter.

Reminder:

Ukraine may import a record 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and depleting reserves.
