The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is contemplating offering funding to Ukraine for gas acquisitions. This information was shared by the Ministry of Finance's press service.
During a meeting between representatives of the ministry and the EBRD, the potential for securing funds from the bank for covering gas procurement expenses was discussed.
"The parties outlined the possibility of attracting additional financing from the bank and other donors to ensure uninterrupted heating for the 2025-2026 season. They also considered the prospect of mobilizing funds under EU guarantees," the announcement stated.
The press release reminded that from 2022 to 2025, the EBRD has provided nearly 1 billion euros for urgent gas purchases to ensure stable heating seasons.
"In 2025 alone, credit agreements were signed with Naftogaz for 770 million euros, of which 500 million euros were backed by guarantees from the European Commission, and 270 million euros under government guarantees," the Ministry of Finance's press service added.
