The National Bank of Ukraine is considering the gradual withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins from circulation starting October 1, 2025.

This was announced by the NBU press service.

The initiative aims to reduce costs for the state and participants in cash circulation, as 10 kopeck coins have ceased to play a significant role in cash transactions. According to the NBU, there are currently about 4.1 billion 10 kopeck coins in circulation.

The NBU explained that the gradual removal of these coins will help decrease state expenses associated with their production, processing, transportation, storage, and circulation maintenance.

Therefore, the regulator proposes to cease minting 10 kopeck coins and to refrain from replenishing cash circulation with them starting October 1, 2025. Banks will not reintroduce them into circulation after receiving them from individuals and businesses. However, 10 kopeck coins will remain a valid payment method. Citizens will still be able to use them for transactions, and banks will accept them for account deposits and payment operations.

Additionally, starting October 1, 2025, the NBU suggests implementing rounding rules for total amounts on receipts during cash transactions: amounts from 1 to 24 kopecks will be rounded down to 0, from 25 to 49 kopecks will be rounded to 50, from 51 to 74 kopecks will be rounded to 50, and from 75 to 99 kopecks will be rounded to the nearest 0.

The draft resolution from the NBU Board will be open for public discussion until August 7, 2025.
