Kyiv is planning to open a new Avant-Garde Museum in a historical building located at 16 Lypinska Street, covering an area of 676.1 square meters. This building is a significant architectural monument of local importance.

The project was supported at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council’s permanent commission on property and regulatory policy. The initiators of the project include: Hanna Starostenko, Kateryna Kyrychenko, Olesya Zubrytska, and Vladyslav Andronov.

The official establishment of the Avant-Garde Museum as part of the Kyiv History Museum took place in November 2024, and the opening of a permanent exhibition will be a crucial step in the development of a modern museum space in Ukraine.

Hanna Starostenko, a Kyiv City Council member, stated: «This idea was actively promoted by Diana Popova during her lifetime, and we continue her work. This ambitious project was realized in less than a year, along with three major exhibitions. We are fighting to restore the rightful status of Ukrainian avant-garde artists like Malevich, Bohomazov, and Ekster, as Ukrainian artists rather than part of the so-called 'Russian avant-garde'.»

Kateryna Kyrychenko, another Kyiv City Council member, added: «The city aims not only to preserve architectural heritage but also to rejuvenate it. The Avant-Garde Museum will be a place where art, memory, and the contemporary history of Kyiv converge.»
