Amidst the war, Ukrainian culture, particularly the National Chamber Orchestra «Kyivska Kamerata», continues to enhance Ukraine's image internationally through unique cultural initiatives.
Ukraine's culture increasingly reflects European traits while emphasizing the complexity and richness of its history.
Recently, an Easter concert in Berlin marked yet another step in promoting Ukrainian music. The orchestra plans to continue its performances not only in the capital but also in frontline regions.
«We must constantly remind the world of our culture, which strives to revive after centuries of suppression, — says Bohdana Pivnenko, the artistic director of the orchestra. — Humanity's memory is unfortunately short. Therefore, we aim to draw attention to Ukraine through vibrant cultural projects…»
On April 21, a charity concert titled «Sound of Ukraine — an die freie Welt» took place in Berlin, supporting women and children affected by the war. Leading Ukrainian musicians performed, and the concert was conducted by the renowned Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson, who emphasized the importance of Ukrainian music in preserving national spirit.
Special guest mezzo-soprano Emily D'Angelo showcased contemporary Ukrainian compositions, including works by Zoltan Almashi dedicated to Mariupol.
Before the concert, an exhibition titled «Voices of Freedom» honored the memory of Ukrainian artists who lost their lives during the war. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to support the «City of Goodness» project.
On May 2, «Kyivska Kamerata» will participate in the Kharkiv Music Fest with a unique program, featuring world-renowned clarinetist Julian Milkis as a special guest. The musician emphasizes the importance of supporting Ukraine and engaging in cultural dialogue with international stars.
The May concert will feature works by three prominent composers, including the unique cycle by Giya Kancheli «Letters to Friends,» which will be presented for the first time in Ukraine in honor of the composer's 90th anniversary.
These concerts not only reinforce Ukrainian identity but also help the world better understand Ukraine during times of war.
P.S. On May 7, this cycle will also be performed in Kyiv at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine featuring Julian Milkis and the «Kyivska Kamerata».
